Kitchen Remodel with Fir Cabinets

This was a fun kitchen remodel for my neighbors up the hill. They decided to update their kitchen using traditional fir cabinets and Shaker-style doors, and gave it a modern twist with a frosted glass backsplash, stainless steel appliances and granite countertops.












Here is a view of the built-in appliances on the north side of the kitchen.

The frosted glass tile plays with the available light and has a 3-dimensional quality. I installed Schluter Kerdi waterproofing behind the tile.

The rough-sawn Fir for the stiles and rails was purchased from Easy Creek Lumber in Lorane and the Fir plywood was from Tree Products in Springfield.

Master Bath Remodel

It's been awhile since my last posting, but I think you'll enjoy my latest effort:





The frameless shower door and partition were a good complement to the beautiful Italian tile. Urethane grout was chosen for its longevity, ease of application (compared to epoxy) and color fast properties (the silica sand in this grout is actually stained so the color is uniform).






I used Schluter Systems of Germany for the shower waterproofing (Kerdi) and floor isolation mat (Ditra).





The shower deco panel consists of 5x5 inch tiles... I used a pastry bag to grout around this rough topography.





The tub is a Toto Clayton soaker with extra depth. The plumbing hardware is from Restoration Hardware.







The old water closet room was totally enclosed and quite claustrophobic. This new area feels very open.









Luckily for me the client has wonderful taste in fixtures.







The green granite is incredible!







The client wanted the door flipped around to open in instead of out, so a new jamb was custom built allowing the door to open past 90 degrees and still cover the existing carpet line.








The wainscotting is 4 ft. high with 3 coats of Benjamin Moore Aura paint (to make it "pop"). Also note the thermostat for the NuHeat tile heating mat!
